Director John McPhail, in a call from his home near Glasgow, said he joined the production several years ago to help complete the original vision of the late Ryan McHenry. Like McPhail, McHenry was a young Scottish filmmaker and he came up with the original inspiration for “Anna.”. McHenry had been watching, or trying to watch, “High School Musical” nearly a decade ago when he moaned to a friend that the only thing that could make the Disney Channel movie bearable would be its star Zac Efron becoming a zombie. A lightbulb went off and in short order he and his friends had made a short film titled “Zombie Musical,” which earned McHenry a 2011 nomination for best director at the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards.
